Sqimple makes product management even easier with its handy and automated category functions. Create categories to manage products just in the back end for your own reference, or create them to organise the front end of your website and improve the user experience. Learn how below.

Create a New Category 

  1. Navigate to your Inventory (Hint: Click the rubix cube icon), from here click the Categories menu item showing on the left hand side of your screen. 
  2. Click the blue Add button. 
  3. Complete the required fields
    • Name
    • Parent Category – Use this setting to create a category hierarchy (e.g. Shoes > Womens Shoes > Boots)
    • Category Image 
    • Description 
  4. Save. You can now add products to your category if required. 

Add and Manage Products in a Category 

  1. Click the category you wish to manage. 
  2. Click the blue Manage Products button
  3. Use the search field to search for a product 
  4. When you have found the applicable product(s), press the plus sign to add a product to your new category or select the blue Add All button to add all products showing in the left column. You will now notice that the product(s) have appeared in the right hand column under the heading Products Selected and a tick will show beside all products in the left hand side that have been added. 
  5. To remove a product from the category simply press the x beside the specified product. 
  6. When ready, press Add or No Thanks to cancel that change. 
  7. Once added you will return to that Categories view and will notice that your products are now appearing under the heading Products
  8. To re-order your products or delete from this view, simply click and drag the product into position or click the trash icon to delete. 

Enable and Publish a Category

If you are satisfied with your new category and would like it to appear on your website shop, you will need to enable the Category website view.

  1. Navigate to your Inventory and again into Categories
  2. Select and open the category you wish to enable. 
  3. Once into the category view, click the blue drop down arrow showing beside the Manage Products button.
  4. Select Enable on Shop. This action will create a templated category page (can be found under Website Pages) and a url (e.g. siteaddress.com/example-category)
  5. Navigate to your Website Settings (Hint: top menu), from here click the Pages menu item showing on the left hand side of your screen and then Category Pages
  6. Find the product you wish to enable on your shop and notice the orange tag reading ‘Disabled on Shop’. 
  7. Open this category page and click the three dots on the top right hand side of your product screen for More Options.
  8. Select the option to Publish
  9. Once the product is enabled and the product page is published it will appear on your website shop, and can be accessed through the newly created url. To view the category on your website simply click the url now showing in the information panels of both the category view and the website page view. Alternatively navigate to your website shop. 

Edit Existing Categories

Should you need to edit your category: 

  1. Navigate to your Inventory and again into Categories
  2. Click the three dots beside the category you wish to edit.
  3. Make all changes as needed and press Save when complete. 
  4. Now click on the category itself, then Manage Products button to change products connected to this category. 
  5. Press Add when done managing products. 
  6. To re-order your products or delete from this view, simply click and drag the product into position or click the trash icon to delete. 
  7. You have now edited your category. This will automatically update all areas that this category is displayed, including the front end of your website. 

Adjust the Hierarchy of your Categories 

Should you need to edit your product: 

  1. Navigate to Categories
  2. Click the category you wish to edit. 
  3. Click and hold your cursor on the 10 dots to the left of each category. 
  4. Drag your category to its new position
